The reason that it worked was because once it is in our system, we can do a few different checks and allow for the URL to not have the "http://" or the "www." parts. If you were entering a new URL and you did not include those, your URL that was monitored may not be exactly what you were looking for since when we corrected your input it would not include the "www." which many people still prefer. Additionally, it provides our newer users with a visual queue on what should go into that box.
